Strategic Plan 2012 - 2016
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) unveiled the second five-year Strategic Plan for the period 2012 - 2016 AD. This plan sets the NRB’s strategic priorities, objectives and action plans for the next five years.
Addressing the senior officials of NRB at a launching program, Governor, Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada highlighted the importance of Strategic Plan and urged all officials to carry on the implementation of the Plan adopting proper integration, synergy and coordination among the departments. Governor Khatiwada added that NRB needs to be responsive to the challenges created by the global integration, financial volatility and uncertainty in the international markets, which directly or indirectly influence the Nepalese banking environment. In this complex environment, attaining the objectives of financial stability and macroeconomic stability is a growing challenge for NRB. Governor stressed the need for formulating annual programs and allocating budget in line with the Strategic Plan. Governor Dr. Khatiwada appraised that with the implementation of this Strategic Plan, NRB will better serve the financial market and contribute in achieving the objectives enshrined in the NRB Act.
Deputy Governor Mr. Gopal Prasad Kaphle praised the work done by the officials involved in bringing out this Plan and urged to be proactive in its implementation. Similarly, Deputy Governor Mr. Maha Prasad Adhikari noted that the Plan is an outcome of consultative process involving the Board members, stakeholders and senior officials of NRB and their contributions must be recognized. Now the challenge is to ensure that all tasks are carried out as planned for which all officials are expected to work together.
This Strategic Plan describes the direction for NRB to move ahead in the next five years. The strategic priorities, objectives and action plans are clustered into seven pillars, namely, (1) Macroeconomic Stability (2) Financial Sector Stability (3) Foreign Exchange Management (4) Payment System and Mechanisms (5) Human Resources Management and Capacity Development (6) Infrastructure Development, Corporate governance and Customer Services, and (7) Information and Communications Technology.
